Poster about ABHA account deletion shows Deactivate vs Delete, with ABHA card, green and red doors, and floating paper debris. Track on seht.

You can delete ABHA account details online in under five minutes, because ABHA is voluntary. The portal and app offer two choices: deactivate, which pauses the account until you log back in, and delete, which permanently removes your ABHA number and the links it holds. Deleting doesn't erase files held by hospitals and labs, which keep records under their own rules. Before you delete ABHA account access for good, download anything you want to keep and revoke active consents.

Deactivate or delete: pick the right option

Most people who search how to delete ABHA account actually need one of three things: a pause, a clean-up of duplicates, or a permanent exit. Choose carefully, because only one is reversible.

When deactivation makes more sense

If you're unsure, deactivate ABHA first. It stops new linking and sharing while keeping your number intact. If a doctor later needs your history, you can reactivate ABHA by logging in and verifying with an OTP. Many people who worried about privacy keep the account once they understand consent. Our explainer on is ABHA safe may answer those worries first.

When deletion is the right call

Deletion fits two cases best. First, you've decided to leave the digital health system altogether. Second, you have a duplicate. It's common to remove duplicate ABHA accounts created at a hospital desk and again on a phone. Keep the one with more linked records, and delete the spare. Log in to both first, compare the linked records and the name spelling, and only then remove the weaker account. Duplicates cause real confusion at hospital counters, so cleaning them up is worth ten minutes.

Step by step: how to delete ABHA account

The flow is short, but read each screen. The final confirmation is permanent.

On the website
  1. Go to abha.abdm.gov.in and log in with your ABHA number, address, mobile or Aadhaar.

  2. Open your profile or My Account settings.

  3. Select Deactivate/Delete ABHA.

  4. Choose Deactivate or Delete and give a reason if asked.

  5. Confirm with the OTP sent to your registered mobile.

On the ABHA app

Log in, open the profile menu, find account settings and choose the deactivate or delete option. Confirm with an OTP. If you manage several family profiles on one phone, double-check the name at the top of the screen before confirming. Deleting your father's account by mistake can't be undone.

Before you press confirm: checklist

•     Do one last ABHA card download so you have the number on record.

•     Download any self-uploaded reports from your health locker.

•     Revoke active consents so nothing is mid-share.

•     Note which hospitals and labs hold your records, so you can request copies later.

•     Confirm you aren't deleting the account linked to the most records.

IN SIMPLE TERMS

In simple terms: deactivating is like switching your account off for a while, and you can switch it back on. Deleting removes your ABHA number for good. Your hospitals still keep their own copies of your reports either way.

What happens to records after ABHA deletion

This is the part most guides skip, and the part families care about most.

Hospital and lab records

ABDM never held your medical files centrally, so deletion doesn't wipe them. What happens to records after ABHA deletion is simple: the hospital, lab or clinic still holds them under its own retention policy. What disappears is the link between those files and your ABHA. To get copies later, request them directly from each facility.

Self-uploaded files and consents

Files you uploaded into an app's health locker may be removed along with your account, depending on the app. Download them first. Active consents end because the account behind them no longer exists.

If you change your mind later

A deleted ABHA can't be brought back. If you rejoin later, you'd create a fresh account with Aadhaar or a driving licence, and old records won't relink on their own. You'd need to share your new ABHA at each hospital or lab and request discovery, or upload older files yourself. That's why deactivation is the gentler first step for anyone who isn't completely sure.

Your Ayushman card is not affected

Deleting your ABHA doesn't cancel your Ayushman card or Ayushman Vay Vandana card under PM-JAY. Those are separate. You can still use them for cashless treatment at empanelled hospitals. If a hospital pushes you to recreate an ABHA before treating you, read our guide on is ABHA mandatory to understand your rights.

WATCH OUT

Watch out: If someone calls offering to "delete your ABHA" for you, hang up. Deletion needs your OTP, and sharing it hands over control of your account.

When to see a doctor (and when to pause first)

Deleting an account is a records decision, not a health one. Take care when:

  • A family member is mid-treatment or awaiting test results. Wait until the episode is closed.

  • An elderly parent has a chronic condition followed at an ABDM-linked hospital. Keep their account, or deactivate rather than delete.

  • You're deleting because of a suspicious consent. Report it to 1800-11-4477 first.

  • Your child's vaccination history is linked through ABHA. Download it before deleting.

In an emergency, go to the nearest hospital or call 112 or 108. You never need an active ABHA to receive emergency treatment.

FAQs

How do I delete ABHA account permanently?

Log in at abha.abdm.gov.in or the ABHA app, open your profile or My Account settings, and choose Deactivate/Delete ABHA. Select Delete, give a reason if asked, and confirm with the OTP on your registered mobile. Deletion is permanent, so download your card and any self-uploaded records before you confirm the final step.

Deactivating pauses your ABHA. No new records link and nothing is shared, but you can reactivate by logging in with an OTP. When you delete ABHA account access, your number and its links are removed permanently. In both cases, hospitals keep their own records. If you're unsure, deactivating is the safer first step.

Records created by hospitals, labs and clinics stay with those facilities under their retention rules. What's removed is the link between those records and your ABHA. Files you uploaded yourself may be deleted with the account, depending on the app. Request copies from each facility later if you need them for treatment.

No. Your Ayushman card or Ayushman Vay Vandana card under PM-JAY is a separate entitlement. Deleting your ABHA doesn't affect your ₹5 lakh hospital cover, and you can still use it at empanelled hospitals. Simply carry your Ayushman card and Aadhaar when you're admitted for treatment, as usual, and ask the Ayushman Mitra desk if anything is unclear.

Log in at abha.abdm.gov.in or the ABHA app with your ABHA number, address, mobile or Aadhaar. Verify the OTP and follow the prompt to reactivate. Your number, address and earlier links return. This works only for deactivated accounts. A deleted account can't be restored, so you'd need to create a fresh ABHA.
